Barcelona is the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, and the second largest city in Spain. It is also one of the mayor European cities. Because it was the capital of the Barcelona County, it is also called ‘Ciudad Condal’.

 

This city is located in north-east Spain on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola. It is 160 km south of the Pyrenees and the Catalonian border with France.

 

Barcelona is recognised as a global and as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe. It is today an important cultural centre, a major tourist destination and a global economic and financial centre. The city is well known for hosting important world events like the International Exhibitions of 1888 and 1929, and the 1992 Olympic Games in recent times.

 

Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm, humid summers. December, January and February are the coldest months, averaging temperatures of 8-10°C. July and August are the hottest months, averaging temperatures of 26°-28C. On average, the rainy seasons are spring and autumn.

 

Barcelona is probably one of the best cities in the world to visit, offering a lot of possibilities. The area has many wonderful attractions -such as Park Guell, La Pedrera, La Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, El Born, Museum Pablo Picasso and so, a modern architecture, cultural and entertainment activities and lovely beaches - especially the Barceloneta neighbourhood, which used to be a fisherman's village, and now this area is being rebuilt and is becoming one of the most upcoming zones.
